Rough Blazing Star Stencil

from $15.00

(Liatris aspera)

A geometric floral stencil in the craftsman/bungalow style of the 1900s-1920s is based on the native prairie plant “Rough Blazing Star.” There are lots of varieties of blazing star but this one is definitely my favorite. It is taller than some of the other types I have in my garden and blooms more sparsely, but the individual flowers are larger. This flower blooms like a sparkler, each of the flowers open in succession from the top down (like a sparkler burns) and mine usually bloom right around the 4th of July. The light purple/lilac flowers are a bee favorite too.

  • SMALL DIMENSIONS: 10 1/8” tall by 4 1/2” wide

  • LARGE DIMENSIONS: 16 1/4” tall by 7 3/8” wide

Stencil Details

The small Rough Blazing Star (Liatris aspera) is designed to be a part of a frieze with the other flowers in this series and has two extra diamonds on either side to help you align it with the next flower in the pattern (trace them in pencil and then use that to line up the next stencil). It also makes a great standalone design on an accent pillow, a table runner, or roller shades. Use your imagination and creativity!

This stencil is cut from 7.5 mil (small) or 10 mil (large) Mylar which is thick enough for many many re-uses, but not so thick that the delicate design is difficult to stencil. I recommend using a stenciling brush to get into all the fine details. Stencil with acrylic paint, latex paint, stencil creams, fabric paint, or glaze. You can use spray adhesive, but I recommend just using blue painters tape to hold the stencil in place and a dry brush to keep paint from bleeding at the edges.
