Blanket Flower Stencil

from $15.00

(Gaillardia pulchella)

A geometric floral stencil in the craftsman/bungalow style of the 1900s-1920s is based on the native prairie plant “Blanket Flower.” Sometimes called “firewheel” this is a quintessential prairie flower. I’ve had trouble finding native varieties that like my garden, but there are lots of cultivars that can be found at garden centers. My favorite are the ones with the prominent red and yellow stripes on the petals. A local park has these mixed in to their prairie areas and they are just gorgeous.

  • SMALL DIMENSIONS: 7 1/2” tall by 5” wide

Stencil Details

The large Blanket Flower (Gaillardia pulchella) is designed to be a part of a frieze with the other flowers in this series and has two extra diamonds on either side to help you align it with the next flower in the pattern (trace them in pencil and then use that to line up the next stencil). It also makes a great standalone design on an accent pillow, a table runner, or roller shades. Use your imagination and creativity!

This stencil is cut from 7.5 mil (small) or 10 mil (large) Mylar which is thick enough for many many re-uses, but not so thick that the delicate design is difficult to stencil. I recommend using a stenciling brush to get into all the fine details. Stencil with acrylic paint, latex paint, stencil creams, fabric paint, or glaze. You can use spray adhesive, but I recommend just using blue painters tape to hold the stencil in place and a dry brush to keep paint from bleeding at the edges.
